I know I am a living system because.....

Wow! Crazy how things can become not so black and white when you begin to look into what is considered a living thing. According to NASA, all living things share a carbon based chemistry, depend on water, or leave behind a fossil with carbon or sulfur isotopes that point to a past metabolism. Scientists struggle to define "life." From what I have read so far, it seems like something could be considered living and have certain characteristics of life, while others may be "alive"  and have slightly different characteristics. Crystals are interesting. They can grow and respond to stimuli but lack a nervous system. I believe there are many different forms of life and we can see things as living that are not what we would expect. In a Native American perspective even rocks are infused with spirit, is that a living thing?

    I think that if it exists in our biosphere and isn't man made, that the item in question is, indeed, a part of a living system. Rocks are apart of the living planet for sure!

8/8/18 Bionics: The development of a bionic person and it's use in the military

8/8/18 Supporting Bionics for Humans? My first feeling about this topic is that I would support the option of bionics for humans in need of limbs, in place of old prosthetic limbs that have previously existed. I have not had to worry about this personally for myself or any of my family members, but I imagine that for someone who does, advances in science in this field are really important for having a more functional, happy life. I had a childhood friend who didn’t need a prosthetic limb, but was disabled and needed braces from the waist down as a child to assist with walking. These things were heavy, stiff, ugly and just archaic! It sounds like newer developments are moving toward more sophisticated options that are more accessible for average people. Week Three Assignment Explaining Connectivity Based on what I know now, I believe all is connected, although I don't completely understand how. I believe there are energies at work that we cannot see.  I look at examples such as the meridian system in Chinese medicine. The channels are not separate; where one ends the other begins. Yin and Yang. Where one ends the other begins. One can transform into the other.  It seems, we cannot see all things at all times, but rather it seems we mostly see just a piece of something at any given time.
